Shiner's Run is the illicit grassroots collection of art and paraphernalia you might purchase from a questionable source out the back of a souped-up Ford Model A: Harmless enough, only for you to find out later your purchases may be a mite haunted. Named for the lost art of running moonshine from the cops during the prohibition days, Shiner's Run means to offer art to the public inspired by its namesake: dark and gritty, mysterious, but rife with old-world charm and enough kick to peel the paint off the side of a barn.

Shiner's Run is the operation of Samuel Amos Hoskins, a Tennessee-born, Ohio-based artist, writer, and fantasy curator. He works both digitally and traditionally, with mastery of programs such as Clip Studio, Photoshop, and Illustrator, and traditional mediums such as watercolor, ink, pencil, marker, etc. He has four years of formal art training, including two years in the art program at East Tennessee State University. Additionally, he's been a selling artist at multiple anime/comic conventions and has 15+ years of experience as a freelance/commission illustrator.

In addition to several years of self-disciplined experience, Samuel has experience in self-publishing as well as team collaboration. In January 2020, he self-published a 30-page auto-biographical zine titled Born Again: Depression, Homelessness, and Finding My Identity. In March of the same year, he partnered with a team of Hollywood professionals for one week to create a 2-minute animated short film for The Creator's Society's annual Animation Jam. Samuel was the concept artist and one of two storyboard and animation artists for the film, titled Word Of Mouth. The film won the award for Most Creative and won 3rd place overall.

The artist is most in his element when working within the themes of death, the afterlife, the supernatural, fantasy, trauma, Queer issues, and coming of age. He is most prominently influenced by artists such as Jon Foster, Bryan Lee O'Malley, Inio Asano, Junji Ito, and Christy Lijewski. Notable literary inspirations include Ray Bradbury, A. Lee Martinez, Kentaro Miura, Daniel Handler, and James Dashner.

Currently, Samuel lives in Akron, Ohio with his beautiful girlfriend and their tiny old dog. He continues to work on his passion project in his free time: an all-Queer cast ghost hunter fantasy graphic novel titled

Give Up The Ghost.
